It's my first class. What should I know?
If it's your first class, please show up at least 10 minutes early so we can get you checked in! Your child should wear athletic clothes (shorts, t-shirt, bedazzled leotard!). They should be comfortable and be able to move easily in what they're wearing. Long hair should be pulled back or braided for safety.
Can I join a class in the middle of a session?
Yes, you can! Just sign up for the session you would like to join and send an email to info@upstategym.com to confirm your start date. We will prorate for the missed classes.
Do I need to stay for my child's class?
As long as your child can use the bathroom by themselves, you do not have to stay. Due to policies set by USA Gymnastics, we are not allowed to take a child into the bathroom. If you do not stay, we recommend you come inside to pick up your child as we do not want children walking around the parking lot unattended.
What happens during open gym?
There is a staff member present to make sure everyone is being safe, but it is not an instructor-lead class. Instructors are not obligated to spot children or work one-on-one with them. Parents are required to stay in the building as long as their child is playing during this time. Open gym times are open for all ages so please keep in mind that there may be a very large age range and skill range.
Can my son take a girl's class?
Absolutely. At Upstate Gymnastics, we have only women's gymnastics equipment, so we can't have a strictly boys class. Please keep in mind they may be the only boy in the class.
During the summer sessions, we have a ninja boys class that is a lot of fun! We have a big obstacle course, and we work on gymnastics, strength, flexibility, and fun!
Can my child try a class before I pay?
We suggest this! If you are new to gymnastics and aren't sure your kid is going to love it, wait to pay until after the first class. Make sure to have the form filled out beforehand so that if they enjoy class, your spot is secured!
My child is 5; which class should we sign up for?
The preschool class and girls recreation class are different in nature. In preschool gymnastics, we introduce beginner skills and focus on fun. This option is geared towards kids who have just turned 5 and are completely new to the world of gymnastics. In the girls recreation class, we begin perfecting basic skills, using bigger equipment, and adding in strength training to help them advance more. If you choose one class and it's not a good fit, you can switch to a different class mid-session; you do not have to wait out the whole session!
How can I pay?
We accept cash, check, and card! On all payments, please put your child's name, class time, and session.
